During India’s World Cup round-robin game against Bangladesh on 19 October, Kohli had registered his 48th ODI century, and is only one ton behind Tendulkar, who finished his career with 49th ODI centuries.

Kohli has so far scored 13,525 runs from 288 ODIs at an average of 58.04.

At the time of writing this report, India were 93/2 in the 11th over against South Africa, having just lost Shubman Gill. Kohli was batting on 19.

India had qualified for the semi-finals of the World Cup with a dominant 302-run win over Sri Lanka in Mumbai on 2 November. After knocks from Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88) and Shreyas Iyer (82) had led the Men in Blue to 357, a five-fer from Mohammed Shami helped India see off the Lankans for just 55.
