FOUR! Another boundary conceded by Siraj as Mitch Marsh decides to take the aerial route over cover point; Jadeja gives the ball a chase and puts in a slide, and even he isn’t able to cut the ball off. Marsh follows it up with two more boundaries — a solid punch through cover followed by a drive down the ground — to make it three boundaries in the over.

Has been an ideal start for the Men in Blue so far — Not only do they win the toss and opt to make second use of the lively Wankhede surface, but they also get rid of in-form opener Travis Head early in. Mohammed Siraj has been their go-to bowler in the powerplay so far this season, and he’s once again delivered.

BOWLED! Siraj strikes two balls after getting hit for a boundary by Head. Bowls this a tad straighter with a hint of inward movement; Head once again shapes for a cut, but ends up chopping the ball onto his leg stump, which goes for a cartwheel. AUS 5/1

The national anthems have been sung, and it’s time for the one-day international series to get underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mitchell Marsh walks out to open alongside Travis Head, who’s coming off an excellent Test series. Mohammed Shami gears up to bowl the first over of the Aussie innings.

Teams:

India: Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan(w), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya(c), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami

Australia: Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith(c), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis(w), Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

Steve Smith, Australia captain: Wasn’t really sure myself. It’s a warm day out here. Hopefully a good toss to lose. We played some really good cricket towards the backend. Completely different format. I’m sure it will be come up on the TV screen. Alex Carey’s sick, and he’s gone home and Josh Inglis comes in. David Warner’s not fully fit yet and Mitch Marsh bats at the top of the order.

Hardik Pandya, India captain: Looks like a good track. Dew might be a factor later. We have been batting quite well in the second half. I got some time off, worked on my skill sets. Very excited, great honour for me to lead India in ODIs as well. We’re going with four quicks — Shami, Siraj Shardul and myself — and two spinners — Kuldeep and Jadeja.

TOSS: India win the toss, and skipper Hardik Pandya opts to field.
