Vinesh Phogat wins gold medal at Yasar Dogu International

Vinesh Phogat was the 3rd wrestler to triumph gold medal in the women’s contest for India. Previously, Seema (50kg) and Manju (59kg) triumphed in their corresponding category.

Vinesh Phogat was born in a Hindu Jat family, Vinesh is the daughter of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat’s younger brother Rajpal as well as the cousin of wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. Both of her cousins have succeeded gold in 55 kg category in Commonwealth Games.

Mahavir Singh and Phogat sisters are very famous, as their story of winning gold in common-wealth was performed on-screen by famous Bollywood Star Amir Kkan in the film,’Dangal’ which turned out to be a Blockbuster pan-India and also in International markets.

India women wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Sunday conquered Russia’s Ekaterina Poleshchuk and achieved gold at Yasar Dogu International in the 53kg category. Phogat beat her Russian opponent 9-5 in the final match to own the gold medal.

Vinesh Phogat in her Twitter page wrote, “Strong performance over the last couple of days at the #YasarDogu here in Istanbul. A good way to check my preparation and test myself against some challenging opponents! On to the next phase of preparation now.”
