In a fire burst at a residential building in southeast Delhi late last night six people, including two children dead and 11 got injured.
The fire in the four-story building in Zakir Nagar, which is a highly-populated area near Jamia Millia Islamia University, burst out at about 2 am. Most of the residents were fell asleep while the fire rose in an electricity box.
Almost 20 people were saved from the spot. Amongst the wounded are those who dived from the building to rescue themselves. The wounded have been carried to a nearby hospital. Two fire-fighters are among the harmed.
Dr. Mala, Chief Medical Officer at Holy Family Hospital said that five patients were in the intensive care unit (ICU), few are in the ward and one is in the paediatric ICU. She said all is under control and they have experts to look after the patients.
Arvind Kejriwal Chief Minister of Delhi said that he is probing the spot of the fire and his government will assist affected families.
Eight fire engines were hurried to the spot and the fire has been extinguished.
