The Indian cricket team management and the selection committee have identified Rohit Sharma as their answer to the opening woes in Test cricket.
They have picked Rohit as the opening partner for Mayank Agarwal for the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa and have dropped KL Rahul from red-ball cricket after persisting with him for the last two years.
Young Shubman Gill has also been identified as a back-up for both opening and middle-order spots.
Chairman of selection committee MSK Prasad has said that they are going to give Rohit some opportunities at the top of the order in Test cricket to see where he stands. He has done well opening the batting in white-ball cricket for a number of years now.
He added that Rohit is very keen as well. If he can repeat his white-ball performance in Tests, it will be a big boost to the side as a lot of Test matches are coming up.
While talking about Shubman he said that he has done well both as an opener and a middle-order batsman. So he can be a back-up for both positions. He will be getting a lot more opportunities because he plays in all three formats.
Hardik Pandya has not been included in the team since the selectors thought the team would find it tough to accommodate him in the playing XI in India. Prasad said that they will need Pandya overseas. The balance of the team in India doesn’t give much of a chance of playing Pandya.Share this to your,
