Petitioners against RTI Amendment Bill detained at Rashtrapati Bhavan

People, including activists, who stood the Rashtrapati Bhavan to present petitions upon the RTI Amendment Bill to the President were detained on August 1 afternoon.

Activist Anjali Bhardwaj, who charged for people to assemble at 12 p.m. outside the Rashtrapati Bhawan, tweeted, “Police is detaining everyone who wants to petition the President to withhold his assent to the RTI Amendments. No right to even peacefully submit a petition the President in our country now?Is this a democracy?”

Eish Singhal, Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that some people have been arrested at Mandir Marg police station.
