Odisha’s first woman mountaineer died at 50

Odisha’s first woman mountaineer, Kalpana Dash died after climbing the Mount Everest on Thursday.

Kalpana (50) had complained breathlessness while descending from the peak and later died near Balcony area.

She started to climb the Everest on April 23 along with Kanchimaya Tamang of Nepal and LiamuMank of China.

Kalpana had first climbed Mt Everest in 2008.

“I am saddened to learn about the demise of Kalpana Dash while descending from Mt. Everest. Her legacy in mountaineering will inspire generations of young women in the State,” said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressing condolences.
