Reliance Jio has launched a video conferencing application JioMeet which is a direct competitor for the likes of Google meet and Zoom app.
In a market where already a lot of similar kinds of platforms are available, Jio has decided to step in and make this application users’ first choice. Currently, the app boasts of HD quality video calling which can be done both through one conversation or a group meeting. The company has not announced any call duration cap but has said that users can make free uninterrupted calls for up to 24 hours long and the app can support up to 100 participants in a single call.
One of the many specs of the app is that it allows you to log in from five different devices and just like the Zoom app, one can share the meeting invite link to your colleagues and use a meeting ID to join a meeting. The host of the meeting can also enable the ‘Waiting Room’ feature to ensure that no participant joins without their permission.
Apart from this, there are some Zoom-like features in JioMeet including share screen features. There is also a mode called “Safe Driving Mode” which seems like a “Do Not Disturb” feature that we have in phones. This could mean that you will not get disturbed by the app if you switch on the Safe Driving Mode.
As per analysts, the interface looks simple and easy to get used to. In India, Zoom is the most common video conferencing platform so it is obvious that it is going to be hard for Jio to make its space. We have to wait and see if JioMeet ‘meets’ the standard of people.
