A kind-hearted couple on Wednesday made the day of a waitress at an American pub by giving her the most generous tip in 20 years of her restaurant career. The waitress named Jennifer Vernancio, who is from the North Providence of Rhode Island in the US, has been working at The Big Cheese & Pub in Cranston for roughly three and half years.
Vernancio, a mother of a 16-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son, was scheduled to reach the restaurant at the 11 am shift. But being a mother of an infant, she was struggling to find a babysitter for her son and was stressed about it. As per the report by NBC 10 WJAR, Vernancio was having a troubling morning on Wednesday. She could not bring her son with her as a kid at daycare was sick and they asked her to come after finding a sitter. But she had to wait until her daughter returned from school. Only after her daughter was available, she did arrive at work in the afternoon.
Vernancio went on serving the first table which was occupied by ‘a super-nice gentleman and his wife’. The couple reportedly ordered some sandwiches and left after settling the bill. The man smilingly wished her a nice day and left after leaving the tip on the table.
However, Vernancio was unaware of what the customer left. When she picked up and checked it, it was an $810 tip (around Rs 62,000) on a bill of just $48 (around Rs 3,710). She could not believe her eyes after receiving ‘the tip of her lifetime’ and immediately showed it to her manager, Kim Tierney. Tierney, who has been working at the pub for 10 years, said that Vernancio mistook the tip initially because of the way the bill was written. Then he confirmed the amount.
Regarding the sweet gesture by the anonymous customer, she said, “it’s more than a couple of shifts. I mean it helps out, everything helps out, but that is more than money it’s just true kindness.”
Later, The Big Cheese & Pub took to their official Facebook page to share a photo of the bill that mentioned the tip amount. Thanking the customer for the generosity, they wrote a caption saying, “Grateful. Angels wander among us and for that we are grateful.”
