Free electricity for the people residing in Delhi state, announces CM Arvind Kejriwal

On Thursday Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared that people residing in the capital will get free electricity if their power usage does not pass 200 units.

Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Delhi government will provide full support to the people using up to 200 units of electricity.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader too told those using 201 to 401 units of electricity will proceed to get a 50 per cent power subsidy from the state government.

Kejriwal said, “Those in Delhi who consume up to 200 units of electricity do not need to pay their electricity bills. They will get a zero-electricity bill. Consumers of 201-400 units of electricity will receive approximately 50 per cent subsidy.”

He added, “People used to pay Rs 622 for 200 units of electricity until yesterday, now it’s free. For 250 units they used to pay Rs 800, now they’ll pay Rs 252. For 300 units, they used to pay Rs 971, now they’ll pay Rs 526. For 400 units, they used to pay Rs 1320, now they’ll pay Rs 1075.”

This decision arrives months before assembly polls in Delhi following Kejriwal offered free metro rides for women in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia wrote on Twitter, “Every family deserves a life of dignity. Just like good education and healthcare, a basic quantum of electricity to run lights/fans at home is essential for that.”

“Delhi electricity sector has undergone historic reforms in last five years,” Kejriwal stated in a tweet.
