French Foreign Minister Le Drian through a telephonic conversation with Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister on Friday notified her regarding France imposing sanctions on JeM chief Masood Azhar by stopping his assets. Sushma Swaraj said that Le Drian told her regarding the action taken by Paris against the leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammed and France has raised the issue with the European Union.
Minister of External Affairs said that “France approved Azhar at the national level by suspending his assets days later China blocked to designate him as a global terrorist. “He restated that France has always been and will always be on India side in the fight against terrorism,” Sushma Swaraj said. Ms Swaraj thanked Mr Drian for France’s for their support for India against terrorism.
France, the US and the UK had submitted a bid at the UN to designate Azhar as a global terrorist after the February 14 Pulwama attack. “The action on the part of France was an expression of partnership with India and was in consonance with the global intent by responsible nations committed to fighting against terror, including cross-border terrorism anywhere in the world, she added.Share this to your,
