The Election Commission has banned the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s biopic ‘Baghini’. The EC said that the biopic has not given a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It got the trailers of a biopic and removed them from three websites. The EC, in its order, said that any biopic material in the nature of biography/hagiography subserving the purposes of any political party or any individual entity connected to it. It has intended to, or which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections. They should not displayed in electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of model code of conduct”.
The West Bengal chief minister denied her involvement with a film made on her life. He warned that she may require to file a defamation suit on those spreading such rumours. She tweeted, “What all this nonsense being spread! I have nothing at all to do with any biopic. If some young people have collected stories and expressed themselves, that’s up to them. However, Not related to us. I am not Narendra Modi. Please do not compel me to file for defamation by spreading lies.”
