Delhi High Court rejects plea of making Vande Matharam as equal to Jana Gana Mana

The Delhi High Court rejected the case filed asking the same status to VandeMataram as the national anthem on Friday.

The request was registered by BJP leader, Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, asking that VandeMataram is granted equal respect as the national anthem Jana Gana Mana.

Upadhyay in his petition had also asked that the central government should be advised to build a national strategy to develop and deliver both the national anthem including the national song. He also asked the court to charge the government to make both the songs are sung in schools.

A related petition was registered in the Delhi High Court on October 2017, asking that the national song should be made equal to the national anthem. But, the court had rejected the request following the central government denied the request declaring that VandeMataram involves a “unique and special place” and cannot be made equal to ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
