Death toll rose to 64 in Odisha due to cyclone fani

Nine days after the cyclonic storm in coastal Odisha has resulted in the death toll to rose to 64 including 21 new deaths confirmed on Sunday.

An official at the State Emergency Operation Centre said the most death cases were recorded from Puri, followed by Khurda (9), Cuttack (6), Mayurbhanj (4), Kendrapara (3) and Jajpur (3).

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed the officials to begin the assessment of houses destroyed in the storm. He also asked special category status from the Centre.

Patnaik added special category information was the important need because of the massive loss to infrastructure which may delay rebuilding of the State.
