Cyclone Fani has caused the loss over 230Cr, BMC said

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Monday that it has acquired losses of over `230 crores in cyclone Fani which hit the State Capital on May 3.

Destruction to parks, green cover and mechanical equipment in the City has been costed at `25.70 crores. BMC has paid over 10 crores till May 10, to lift green trash and the expense will rise further.

Civic officials said the damage due to the collapse of walls of 10 natural drainage canals has been secured at 32.42 crore while the damage to internal road network and drains of around 500 km in the limits of BMC has been calculated at around155.60 crore.

About 1,500 electricity poles were damaged in the cyclone worth `5.39 crore.

BMC officials said, “We have engaged 14 agencies in 67 Wards for assessment of damage.”
