Former Union minister P. Chidambaram has approached the Delhi high court looking for bail. He has also challenged a trial court’s 5th September order remanding him to 14 days judicial custody in the case till 19th September.

The Congress leader has been arrested by the CBI on 21st August.

The court has earlier said that the allegations against Chidambaram have been found to be true therefore he was remanded to police custody.

It had also been said that the CBI had apprehension because of Chidambaram’s status and his position.

The court had issued directions for keeping Chidambaram in a separate cell in Tihar prison as he was a protectee under Z-security.

The trial court had also issued notices to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Chidambaram’s plea looking to surrender in the money laundering case lodged by the agency.

Chidambaram had withdrawn his petition from the Supreme Court challenging the non-bailable warrant issued against him. The apex court had on 5th September dismissed his appeal against the Delhi high court’s 20th August order and has denied him anticipatory bail in the money laundering case lodged by the ED.
