Bus Accident in Kishtwar, J&K

About 35 people died and 17 were injured on Monday in an accident while a Matador fell into a deep canyon in Thakrie region of Keshwan in Kishtwar district.

The minibus was travelling from Keshwan to Kishtwar while the driver failed to control the vehicle when driving through a sharp curve and the vehicle slipped off the road and fell about 250 feet from Kishtwar town.

The SDRF, volunteers of Ababeel and Red Cross society, some locals arrived at the spot and began rescue operations and army personnel also joined them.

The passengers were moved to the district hospital in Kishtwar where doctors reported 23 were brought dead and 12 others died due to their injuries.

An official stated that there were 38 passengers in the minibus. Four of them who were critically injured were airlifted to GMC Jammu.

Thakur Randeep Bhandari, General Secretary DCC Kishtwar, also alleged that the traffic management system in the region is in poor condition of the road.
