The Beijing Chabad said that it will shut operations in the city for the weekend under the advice of the Israeli Embassy and police after an Israeli diplomat was stabbed earlier in the day.
According to reports, the diplomat, who worked in Israel’s embassy in Beijing, was attacked within the vicinity of the embassy.
Israel’s foreign ministry confirmed the attack and said the diplomat was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
The Chabad said that police officials have promised protection to it for the next 24 hours.
Half a dozen policemen in plain clothes have been stationed around the embassy in China in addition to the normal contingent of uniformed officers.
Israel’s foreign ministry confirmed the attack and said the diplomat was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Israelis expressed “deep disappointment” with China’s statements concerning Hamas’ assault on southern Israel.
The deputy director for Asia and the Pacific at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Rafi Harpaz emphasised that the messages from China have “no clear and unambiguous condemnation of the terrible attack and heinous massacre committed by the terrorist organisation Hamas against innocent civilians and the abduction of dozens of them to Gaza.”
