Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that the Gujjar, Bakerwal and Pahari communities in Jammu and Kashmir will get reservation benefits in accordance with the recommendations of the Justice Sharma Commission which examined the issue of quota.
Addressing a rally here, Shah also said there will be no decline in ST quota of Gujjars and Bakerwals and Paharis and everyone will get their share.
He said the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 has paved the way for providing reservation benefits to the deprived sections of the society in Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the process for reservation has been cleared and the Pahari community, besides Gujjars and Bakarwals, will be given reservations in education sector and government jobs under Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
“After the abrogation of 370, the process for reservation has been cleared. Justice Sharma’s commission (set up by Lieutenant Governor) has sent the report and recommended reservation for Gujjar, Bakarwal and Pahari communities and it will be given soon,” said Shah while addressing a huge crowd in Rajouri.

Amit Shah said in the rally that there have been only 721 terror incidents since 2019, while during Congress rule since 2006 it was more than 4000. “Do you hear any stone pelting news now? Modi ji has given laptops and books in the hand of youths instead of stone,” he said.

On the disputed election delimitation, Shah said, “earlier delimitation was done for their families only, but after new delimitation pahadi seats have been increased.” He said Modi brought in measures such as the Minority Act and removal of toll tax on transportation of goods.

Two prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference have expressed their desire to join the BJP on condition that the central government grants Schedule Tribe status to their Pahari community.
PDP district president Rajouri Tazeem Dar and senior NC leader Shafqat Mir gave the assurance to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting here on Monday night, sources said.
