Amarnath Yatra stopped after a protest to shutdown

The Amarnath Yatra was stopped on Saturday, no pilgrim permitted to proceed towards the Kashmir Valley from Jammu as to a separatist-called protest shutdown, police said.

A police official said, as per the law and order status as the protest closing declared by the separatists on Saturday, the pilgrims from Jammu to Srinagar were stopped and will continue suspended today.

July 13 is seen as Martyrs Day in Jammu and Kashmir to memorialise those shot in the firing near the Srinagar Central Jail by authorities of the Dogra Maharaja in 1931.

The state government follows the day to acknowledge those who struggled for Freedom in 1947.

The yearly Himalayan pilgrimage began on July 1, about 1.50 lakh pilgrims have completed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra till now.

This year’s Amarnath Yatra will conclude on August 15 with the Shravan Purnima celebration.
