Human trafficking in Jharkhand: 7 minor girls rescued from Ranchi airport, sent to shelter home

The anti-human trafficking unit of Jharkhand Police on Thursday rescued 7 minor girls from Ranchi airport and arrested a woman who was involved in the crime, an official said.
The woman allegedly was trying to carry all the 7 girls to another state, the official added.
The minors have been sent to a government shelter home.
The incident has once again exposed the dark trade of human trafficking in Jharkhand.
The Action Against Trafficking & Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC) convenor, Sanjay Mishra, who has been working against trafficking for more than 2 decades told India Today that poverty, illiteracy and lack of livelihood are the core reasons that cause migration and trafficking of minors.
“The government should roll out a long term scheme to ensure bread and butter, employment, education and growth for people hailing from poor socio-economic background by mobilising local resources,” he said.
“Meagre earning drags the innocent girls from Jharkhand towards metros and they land up in trouble. They face humilation, sexual exploitation, traumatic experinece, pain and all kinds of torture once they leave the state and fall in ploy of touts or pimps. If food and avenues of employment are available at their doorstep they would not go outside, Sanjay Mishra added.
