SC Sets Aside HC Verdict Declaring Special Backward Class ‘Gowari’ as ST in Maharashtra

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, on August 14, 2018, had held that 'Gond Gowari' community, included as ST in the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, has become extinct before 1911 and there was no trace of its existence either in Maharashtra or in Madhya Pradesh prior to 1956.
