India’s Nitu Ghanghas and Amit Panghal gave India two more gold medals, this time from boxing, at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Sunday.

Ghanghas won her final bout in the minimum weight category through a unanimous decision (5-0) against England’s Demie-Jade Resztan. She dominated all three rounds of the bout with some amazing punches on her English opponent.
This is also the first major senior medal for Ghanghas. Earlier, she had won two Youth World Championships gold.
Asian games gold-medalist Panghal, the favourite in the men’s flyweight category, didn’t upset his fans as he too won the bout with a unanimous decision of 5-0 against England’s Kiaran Macdonald.
Panghal too, similar to Nitu, dominated all three rounds as the judges awarded more points in his favour.
In what proved to be a happy hour for India, the boxers competed in their final match within a short time gap after the women’s hockey team won the bronze medal match.
India’s medal tally rose to 43 including 15 gold medals after the back-to-back boxing gold medals.
India is expecting one more gold medal in boxing as Nikhat Zareen will be seen in action in the evening in the women’s 50kg category against Carly MC Naul of Northern Ireland.
